Positive Outcomes Charter School strives to provide an individualized educational opportunity that provides each student with core knowledge skills needed to excel in the world.

A comprehensive curriculum at the high school level presents a variety of opportunities for all individual students. Provision is made for each student according to his/her individual characteristics and needs to have instructional guidance and assistance in pursuing a program of studies for maximum attainment.

Graduation requirements, stated in terms of credits, are a statement of minimum requirements. Students are expected to be active in educational endeavors which take them far beyond minimum requirements.

The minimum requirements for graduation from Positive Outcomes Charter School are as follows:

Class of 2015 and Beyond

v Students will  complete an Autobiography.  The required length of the autobiography will be developed with input from the student’s advisor, teachers, parents and student with the approval of the school administration.

v Students must complete a senior Thesis project

v Students must complete at least 2 Learning Through Internship-Interest (LTI) credits and 2 LTI projects

v Students must complete 4 credits in English/Language

v Students must complete 4 credits in Social Studies

v Student must complete 3 credit in Science

v Students must complete 4 credits in Mathematics  (equivalent of the traditional requirements of Geometry, Algebra I and Algebra II courses with one credit during their senior year)

v Students must complete 3 credits in Career Pathway

v Students must complete 2 credits in a State of Delaware Approved Foreign Language

v Students must complete ½ credit in Health or other related field

v Student must complete 1 credit in Physical Education

v Student must complete 1 credit in Computer Literacy

v Student must have earned a total of 24 credits

v Students must earn a grade of “Pass” on their Senior project and exhibition in addition to earning the required credits and passing requirements

A student may be excused from the physical education requirements because of illness or for any other reason acceptable by school officials.

A student with a disability may be excused from a specific requirement(s) upon inclusion of exemption(s) on the individual education program. (IEP)

The charter school will accept credits earned towards graduation from another school that is recognized by the Delaware Department of Education upon receipt of an official transcript.

The charter school will accept credits earned towards graduation from another school outside of the State of Delaware or the Armed Forces upon receipt of an official transcript.

The charter school will accept credits earned toward graduation from an accredited Correspondence School upon receipt of an official transcript and confirmation by Positive Outcomes Charter School officials. Prior approval is required for any courses taken at any other institution, concurrent with POCS enrollment.

The charter school will accept credits earned toward graduation from a post-secondary educational institution if the course was pre-approved by a school administrator.
